Wasn't the (formerly) proposed high-rise condominium on this site fought and blocked by the community? I can count three car washes in a 1 km radius of Dundas & Keele. Surely there must be something that either Gord Perks and/or we as a community can do.

A low rise condo (5 to 6 storey) was proposed for the sight. I think most of the opposition was regarding the demolition of the old building.

Although I don’t agree with tearing down the McBride building I think a condo development with street level office would be beneficial to this stretch of Dundas.

My understanding is the owner has a right to redevelop the lot into a carwash, it’s his right and the city can’t stop him.

We can force a community review which is what has happened and we can comment on how it’s designed, entrances, environmental issues and other details which our by-laws protect the community. Few people support this development including the city planners but the by-laws don’t protect against bad ideas.

Heritage Conservation District designation or an Avenue Study can discourage bad design and if we really want a say in our community development we will need to develop a plan using one of these tools. I will make a presentation and lead a discussion on HCD and Avenue Studies at the Sept 17th JRA meeting.

It’s also my understating that the owner of this site has other property in the Junction and strong showing will at least let him know the Junction community is watching.

I concur.. Too many car washes.. Keele/St.Clair, Keele st Petro Can (just across from Business Depot) and there is one west on Dundas near the Avis. Bad for traffic too. Good luck pulling in/out of that car wash anytime between 3-7pm.
