The Bloomberg administration is taking on many cyclists’ worst fear: getting “doored.” Today, the city announced a new campaign urging taxi riders to look for cyclists before opening their doors and potentially “dooring them.” The campaign has two components: first, starting in the next couple of weeks, the city will start distributing 26,000 “LOOK! for cyclists” decals so that taxi owners can affix them to their rear windows, if they want to. Also, a video began airing today in the back of city cabs urging riders to “Take out your boss, take out a friend, take our your date, but don’t take out a cyclist.” Keeping an eye out for car doors is “one of the first lessons passed along to New Yorkers when they get on their bikes,” said Noah Budnick, deputy director of Transportation Alternatives, which helped develop the campaign with the city.

I’d like a bigger campaign in the Junction, directed at Cyclists to “don’t take out a pedestrian” and/or “don’t take-out an occupied stroller”.
