Is bringing to our notice that a wonderful house is our area is in a situation of possible tear down.

596 Willard Ave – Madeleine McDowell advised this house, built in 1914, has been listed on the Toronto Real Estate Board Multiple Listing Service as a “tear down”. Madeleine believes the wood building with infill brick, and original windows with stained-glass, has heritage value and would likely restore beautifully. It has two units, upstairs and downstairs, with two addresses. It could be recommended to be “listed” as a heritage building, or at least thoroughly documented. Madeleine advised she has emailed the listing to Mary MacDonald. Paul Cordingley and Madeleine will do further research on the property

Board Decision

The Toronto Preservation Board recommends to the Toronto and East York Community Council that:

1. City Council include the property at 58 Atlantic Avenue on the City of Toronto’s Heritage Register in accordance with the Statement of Significance (Reasons for Inclusion): 58 Atlantic Avenue attached as Attachment 3 to the report (January 19, 2016) from the Chief Planner and Executive Director, City Planning Division.

(January 19, 2016) Report from the Chief Planner and Executive Director, City Planning Division
Summary

This report recommends that City Council include the property at 58 Atlantic Avenue (which includes entrance addresses on Atlantic Avenue, Liberty Street and Jefferson Avenue) on the City of Toronto’s Heritage Register. Located on the southwest corner of Liberty Street, the property at 58 Atlantic Avenue is the subject of a development application for a multi-storey commercial complex that proposes to retain the 3½-storey heritage factory building (1901) with an entrance address at 25 Liberty Street.

The inclusion of the property at 58 Atlantic Avenue on the City’s Heritage Register would identify all of the cultural heritage values and attributes of the property and ensure that they are preserved as part of the redevelopment of the site.

All text Parkdale RA

Hello,

RoncyWorks is planning it’s yearly candlelight walk down Roncesvalles during Earth Hour on March 19, from 8:30 PM to 9:30 PM.
If someone in Parkdale is organizing a candelight walk on Queen Street West, RoncyWorks would love to meet them at the foot of Roncy on the south side, as they did a few years ago.

Neither the Parkdale BIA nor the Parkdale Resident’s Association is organizing anything, but if you hear of anyone through your network, please contact Veronica Feihl (veronca(at)roncyworks.org) or Karyn Klaire Koski (karynklairekoski(at)gmail.com).
We encourage local shops and restaurants to observe the hour as well which always endears them to those on the walk.

Tunnel Vision: The Story of Toronto’s Subway, The Market Gallery

The Market Gallery presents the exhibition “Tunnel Vision: The Story of Toronto’s Subway” in partnership with the Toronto Transportation Society. The exhibition will highlight the building of Toronto’s subway system using photographs, maps and artifacts, and will explore the complexity and massive scale of Toronto’s subway’s operation.
Toronto’s subway system is much more than a few lines on a map or a list of numbers on a spread sheet. Every day for over 60 years, it has been the backbone of this city and has moved billions of passengers. The exhibit focuses on the enormous effort that it takes to keep the subway rolling, enabling visitors to better appreciate the vital role played by rapid transit in Toronto.
The exhibition runs from February 13 to June 11, 2016.

JunXion condos on Mulock.

While this blog really wants to see the condos developed on the old Benjamin Moore paint plant, how the word Junction is stylized on their sign is not Junction at all.
Although the back of the sign highly relates to Rothko work.
