As late as the 70’s climbing the east silos staircase to the top as a kid was possible, and scary.
as the last silos comes down it is a sad moment for the Junction. The other siolo came down in 2010.

The old meat tip site is being cleaned up quite a lot.
In the 70s into the middle 80s if you were to drive west along West Toronto Street to the jog at now leads to the Metro supermarket and beer store mall you would’ve ran into a large ramp but ended nowhere.
Driving along West Toronto St. Anytime between 4 and 7 PM you could’ve seen the series of trucks driving up the ramp and dumping the innards of animals into larger trucks waiting at the end of the ramp on the ground.
The whole process is rather gory and exceedingly smelly, with a lot of squishy sliding sounds.
The meat tip was there until the conversion of the site by CPR into the on highway in the mid 1996.
Above a complete view of the site facing west.
The last of the Junction silos is coming down. The images below are if the last one of two silos that sat at 45 Junction Rd. The six Seasons silo structure that sat next to this one was taken down in 2010.
The other silo in the junction was located on Vine Avenue on what is now half of Vine Avenue parkette.
The silo complex was part of the ShurGain company was removed in 1972. The community organized ti demand the city buy the property remove the silo and add the lead to the park.
There’s has recap from the post comments.

My understanding is the project is already approved its just a matter of how high up they can development the site. Just down the street at 43 Junction rd their also close to getting this develeopment site moving since the zoning is already approved. http://francesnunziata.com/ward-11/development-activity/ Development Activity 43 Junction Road Proposal: To convert an existing industrial building to a fitness centre (LA Fitness) and grocery store (Organic Garage) Status: Site Plan Control Application under review Click here to view architectural plans Click here to view elevations Both developments sites are a good thing for the area since both lands have been vacant for a long time with no activity at all.
