Symes Road to get new brewery operated by award winning brewer.

Full story at post city

….it was announced that award-winning home brewer Jordan Rainhard is bringing his name and a new brewery to 100 Symes Road, just north of St. Clair in the Stockyards District. A home-brew heavyweight, his work has been seen—and most importantly, tasted—at Toronto Beer Week’s Homebrew Competition, scoring wins with his unique, full-bodied take on pale ales in 2013. With his new home on Symes Road, Rainhard’s operation will be called Rainhard Brewing Co., where he intends to continue the craftwork that made his name. Promising “hand-crafted artisanal ales” the location will also feature a brewhouse, tasting room, events space, and a retail store.

Center Island gondola ride to be replaced

Above one the rides support tower, still laden with cables and the west ride engine house.

The new agreement (last year) between the city and the rides operator at Center Island will see the gondola lift chair ride replaced…with what…who knows.

No phone day in the Junction

For a few mths earlier this year I could not use a phone, now for the past few mths one has not left me. Bloody awful!

Never seen anybody walking the Junction strip with the 99 pack of beer

One of the most laconic buildings on the Junction strip

… And one if the most expressionistic facades…

The building housing the variety store just east of where the old McBride building is one of the most concise with one main facade treatment – the large front roof ridge. It protrudes from the building more than any other in the Junction.

…and further on east one the best facades on the strip. This building retains the wonderful architectural details is has for at least 4 decades.

Stockyards mall grand opening Sunday tomorrow

The settlement for the Grenadier Square development is now an Agenda Item for the City Council Meeting starting August 26th, 2014. Councillors will vote on item CC55.12:
 http://app.toronto.ca/tmmis/viewAgendaItemHistory.do?item=2014.CC55.12

We need you to tell the Councillors to REJECT the settlement and send the City back fighting at the OMB. Please send an email to the City Clerk before August 22nd 12:00pm, as follows:

 TO: clerk@toronto.ca
 CC: info@highparkcoalition.ca
 SUBJECT: CC55.12 – City Council Meeting August 26th, 2014
 EXAMPLE EMAIL:
 Attn: City Clerk, Marilyn Toft
Please include the following submission as part of the Councillors’ package on the matter CC55.12.

51-77 Quebec Avenue and 40-66 High Park Avenue – Zoning By-law Amendment Application – Request for Directions Report

City Solicitor, Ray Kalio has proposed a settlement that is unacceptable and does not address the many issues outlined in City Planning’s Final Report on the rezoning application.

The critical issues remain: overdevelopment of the site, density, height, setbacks, compatibility with the existing context, and quality of life for current and future residents.

Etobicoke-York Community Council voted unanimously against the application on Feb 25 2014. City Council adopted this decision on Mar 20 2014. There are over 2,000 residents opposed to this development application, and would like to see a more appropriate infill development.

I respectfully request that you support the residents’ views and vote to reject this settlement.

Metropolis moving ?

I reader of the blog has just mailed in that metropolis may be moving.

There is a sign on the door stating so… The store on the southside of Dundas St., West just west of Pacific contributed well to the flavor of strip.

They have another location or warehouse over by the Viceroy factory by Dupont and Dundas.

 Side see the store go.

They do post with the picture really soon.
