Sorauren Park Town Square community consultation April 17

See the exciting, new, not-yet-revealed plans for the Town Square from The Planning Partnership, the design consultancy hired by the City. The Planning Partnership is a noted interdisciplinary landscape architecture, urban design and planning firm, and was the lead landscape architecture design firm on the new West Don Lands public realm plan, the new central park in the revitalization of Regent Park, and Wychwood Barns Park.

Add your input on The Planning Partnership’s proposals before construction drawings are prepared, in a special session presented by Parks, Forestry and Recreation, Wabash Building Society, The Planning Partnership and Councillor Gord Perks. April 17, 7 – 8:30 p.m., at Parkdale Community Centre, 75 Lansdowne Avenue.

Double your Town Square donation before May 1… hurry!

Fundraising continues to ensure construction of the Square! Double the value of your donation to the Sorauren Park Town Square campaign by giving before May 1. Thanks to a matching grant, Live Green Toronto will match all donations to the Sorauren Park Town Square project before a May 1 deadline.

The new Town Square will bring the derelict space between the Sorauren Fieldhouse and the old linseed oil factory back to life. It will provide more space for an expanded Farmers’ Market, community gardens and trees, benches and picnic tables, and space for performances, concerts and festivals.

Let City Council know that parks are important to you and that a gradual, slow decline in city support for our parks is not good for your park and community. You can depute to the City’s budget committee, send in your comments or write your local city councillor. Find out how here. Toronto City Council will discuss and vote on the budget at the Council meeting on January 15-17, 2013.

Design Workshop for the “Sorauren Square”

Wednesday, June 29, starting at 6:30 p.m.

Food and drinks provided

Help plan — and name — the new “Sorauren Square” proposed for the “dead zone” of derelict land between the Sorauren Fieldhouse and the old linseed oil factory.

At this public design workshop, we’ll look at town squares in other cities and countries, review the existing Sorauren Master Plan concepts, and get drawing!

Sorauren Square is envisioned as a place for markets, festivals, concerts, shows, events and meeting neighbours on warm summer evenings.

If you like to draw and dream, or have ideas for this new public space, please come to our Design Workshop. RSVP to so we can plan our numbers.
