Gord Perks opinion on Streetcars

Metro news is reporting

From Gord Perks in the article,

Councillor Gord Perks (Ward 14, Parkdale-High Park) said it’s essential to order additional streetcars to maintain existing service levels and meet future demand. Without the 60 optional cars, the TTC would run its new streetcars at less frequent intervals than the current fleet, which Perks argued would be “a de facto cut to the quality of transit service.”

He is 100% correct. We MUST have a full complement of streetcars. There is no rush to accept the option until 60 cars are delivered. That is a year away. It will be more likely Bombardier can be held to a better delivery once they get their act together. Bombardier will not want that option cancelled as it will damage their reputation with other buyers. So, Bombardier will try hardest to get the optional order AND deliver on time. Going to another manufacturer will NOT result in a better deal at this time.
