from their Facebook Page

Wednesday is our first Community Meeting! We are delighted to be joined by Maria Rodrigues, public school trustee for Ward 9, and Curtis Ennis, a TDSB Superintendent for the area. Are there any specific questions you will be looking to have answered? Leave them here and we’ll do our best to get the answers.

An outtake from their submission,

Description of the Reggio Emilia Philosophy as defined by Woven Alternative School
The Reggio Emilia approach is not so much a curriculum model as it is an evolving curriculum where
children lead the direction of what is taught, and teachers initiate discussions, rather than start new
topics or themes. Children are viewed as competent in their own learning, full of ideas and inventive in
the exploration of connections. Teachers are trained to listen to, observe, question and support
children’s investigations, letting things evolve rather than making things happen. Learning is seen as a
collaborative effort between students, teachers, parents and the environment. Distinct emphasis is
placed on the arrangement of the learning space as the environment in which learning takes place is
seen as the “third teacher”.

“In Reggio-inspired classrooms throughout the world, children learn that they have their own voice, arecapable of constructing their own theories about how and why things work, and come up with their ownanswers to problems. Reggio teachers feel there are no wrong answers, only good questions. Mistakes areseen as opportunities for learning.” Loris Malaguzzi, inspiration behind Reggio inspired learning
