At 43 Junction Rd the east silos are to come down in Nov. or Dec of this year.

I was wondering about that. I live directly across from there (Heintzman Place) and see the silos from my terrace. It looks like they've already started as the structure on top is already missing walls…

In a way, it's sad. Those silos have been great landmarks of industry in the Junction, and a connection to what was almost a century of milling operations on this site, dating back to late Victorian times. If I recall correctly, most of the milling complex was demolished in the early 1990s, but not the silos and warehouse.

There's a positive side to this. I don't want to see underused or vacant properties like this one in the Junction and if they're demolishing it, maybe there are some interesting plans for the site. I just hope it won't be replaced by some ugly beige building.

They are kinda cool, but not used for anything other then being a big concrete cell tower. I agree I ope they replace it with a something interesting. It's unfortuanate that they painted the neighbouring building biege and put those ugly windows instead of restoring it.

Either way it's better then the way it was.

I heard from a friend who attended a meeting last night 'April 02' that took place at 90 Cawthra regarding the area and 43 Junction Rd. There is an applicant who is interested in building an Organic food store on this land, the land has been empty for years. The whole community residents and employeers are for this project, the only ones against it is NRT 'Rubber Factory' as usual and Planning because it does not meet one or two of there policies. The meeting that will approve or deny this will happen i beleive on April 11 where a panel of 5 members will say 'Yes' or 'No' to the proposal. I encourage the community to come out and support this and other developments that are trying to occur in the area and being blocked by planning department and NRT. Please contact Councillor Nunciata office for details of the meeting and Juntioneer if you get the details, please post them on this site. I beleive the meeting is at 1pm but not to sure on it location.
