Parkdale Hub Project – creation of arts facility with nine live-work units, an art gallery and community space.

 

 

City seeks  to expropriate property municipally known as 1337 Queen Street West in order to build affordable housing and community program space with to include the  replacement space for Toronto Artscape Inc, with nine live-work units, an art gallery and community space.

City Council requested that the Chief Executive Officer of CreateTO and the Executive Director of Housing Secretariat include space for Toronto Artscape Inc. within the proposed Parkdale Hub. The Executive Director of Corporate Real Estate Management recommended the property be expropriated for affordable housing units.

In February 2021, City Council adopted the 2021-2030 Capital Plans  allowing the Housing Secretariat to allocate funds towards the Parkdale Hub project. On March 28, 2017, City Council asked three Deputy City Managers to convene an interdivisional agency table to determine the feasibility of a coordinated City plan for properties located at 1313, 1303 Queen Street West and 220 Cowan Avenue.

The proposed project will provide up to 1,550 square metres (16,700 square feet) of new ground floor community space.

The City seeks to expropriate 1337 Queen Street West, which is located near the intersection of Queen Street West and Dunn Avenue, for the purpose of a land assembly with other properties to create new affordable housing units and community program space.

1337 Queen Street West has a one-storey building with a gross floor area of 8,500 square feet, and a surface parking lot. The property has the potential to include 109 additional housing units, 800 square metres (8,500 square feet) of community space, and vehicular access to the Parkdale Hub.
