In April of 2024 the City of Toronto went looking for a supplier of snack foods for the After School Recreation Care Programs.
Below is summery of the provisions for the food, that was ordered and the requirements.
- Fruit or Vegetable: The program includes a daily fruit or vegetable option, which can be fresh, frozen, canned, or dried without added sugar.
- Hydration: Water is offered during snack time and is accessible at all times.
- Trans Fat-Free: Only foods made without trans fat are served.
- Beverages: Beverages are unsweetened or have no added sugar. This excludes sweetened drinks like sodas, juices, sports drinks, and iced teas.
- No Candy: The program avoids serving candy or other primarily sugar-based foods.
- Dietary Accommodations: Choices are provided to accommodate dietary restrictions related to allergies, food intolerance, religion, and culture. For instance, high calcium beverages like soymilk or lactose-free milk are offered for children who cannot drink regular cow’s milk.
As to freshness of the delivered products the city requires the item to be delivered each day 2:30 PM and 6 PM. Items that are out of stock must replaced with “with a nutritionally suitable alternative
product” and substitutions must be pre-authorized before delivery.
The Supplier is responsible for providing the City with monthly and quarterly electronic usage reports, to include,
Sales by product/by location and total
Sales by manufacturer by category by location and total
Consolidated report by category and dollar by location and total
Place of origin for each product must be provided
Percentage of locally produced food
