Toronto Plane Mates Missing After Raid
FO. Huntly Parker Gordon of 42 St. Clair Ave. W. and FO. Howard Clouston Wright of 202 Vaughan Rd. pilot and bomb aimer of the same aircraft of the Lion Squadron, are reported missing after air operations in yesterday’s RCAF casualty list.
FO. Wright, 27, is the only child of Mr. and Mrs. H. T. Wright. According to official word received by his parents, he was listed as missing after operations on July 29. FO Wright was educated in Toronto and graduated from Central Technical School. He attended University of Toronto extension courses for two years, and was employed in the T Eaton Company, Limited, employment office. He enlisted in September, 1941, and trained at No. 1 initial Training School (Eglinton Hunt), Toronto: Chatham, Dafoe, Sask, and received his wings and commission at Rivers, Man., where he had been class leader, on March 18, 1943. He went overseas last November after a term as instructor at Paulson, Man.
FO. Elwood Albert Townsend, a pilot in the 405th Pathfinder Squadron, is reported missing in the same list. He was reported missing over Germany July 28-29, according to official word received by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. W. H. Townsend of 7 Ruskin Ave. FO. Townsend is 23 years old. He attended Western Commercial School, and was employed at the Toronto Union Stockyards before he enlisted on April 15, 1942. FO. Townsend trained at Belleville, …endleton and Hagersville, where he received his wings on April 30, 1943. He went overseas in May of the same year. He has written home to say that he is engaged to a Scottish girl.
Flt. Sgt. Paul Poulos, 20, son of Mr. and Mrs. Denis Poulos of 87 Brook Ave, is listed as missing. According to official word received by his parents, the Halifax bomber of the Alouette Squadron, in which he is an air gunner, failed to return from a raid over Hamburg July 27, Flt. Sgt. Poulos attended Earl Haig Collegiate Institute, and was employed for a short time at the Spadina Hotel before enlisting on Nov. 9, 1942. He received his wings at Trenton in August, 1943, and went overseas two weeks later. His brother, Sgt. Jim Gordon Poulos, is on an instructor’s course at Trenton.
