When the CPR decided to build the Junction repair shops.

March 1911, Canadian Pacific Railway Company announces plans to spend several million dollars on improvements and new construction projects in Ontario this year. The projects, which include the construction of new stations, freight buildings and yards, and other work, are set to begin as soon as weather permits.

In Toronto, the company has several undertakings planned. Subways will be constructed at Elizabeth and Jane streets, and Scarlet road in North Toronto. A large freight car repair shop will also be built in West Toronto, covering an area of half an acre or more. This new structure will allow for the repair work to be done indoors, rather than in the open air.
